In accordance with CBC News, domestic checked-bag fees have increased by 40 percent since they were introduced in 2014.

Air Canada hiked its first checked-bag fee by $5 for economy-type fares this month, shortly after Westjet made the same decision.
Airlines may face the consequence of more passengers jamming the cabin with carry-ons to avoid paying for a checked-bag.
