An investigation by the newspaper Der Spiegel recorded around 3,600 homeless people in Finland today.

The figure reported is down from 20,000 in the 1980s.
In Helsinki, the number dropped by 40 percent between 2019 and 2022. Finland’s approach was investing in the construction and maintenance of welfare housing.
The Housing First model has found a home for 60 percent of Finland’s homeless population.
