In the first month of 2024, the total number of new consumer credit contracts also showed an upward trend, reaching 137,187 contracts, an increase of 7.1% compared to January 2023.

Compared to December, the total amount of consumer credit rose 10.4%, while the total number of new contracts increased by 6.9%.

Central bank data indicates that the value of new car credit amounted to 237 million euros in January, an increase of 0.9% compared to the previous month. The number of new credits grew 5.4%, to 15,589.

Personal credit totalled 300 million euros, an increase of 20.3% compared to December, with the largest portion being “without specific purpose, home, consolidated and other purposes” (287.6 million euros).

As for the number of new personal credit contracts, this amounted to 44,336, 10.4% more compared to the previous month.

Considering credit granted through credit cards and overdraft facilities, the amount of new contracts rose by 8.1%, to 114 million euros, in the chain variation, through 77,262 new contracts (an increase of 5.3%) .
