They were on their way to the Defence Forces Training Centre in County Kildare's The Curragh.
According to a statement from the military forces, the convoys would consist of articulated trucks, armoured personnel carriers (APCs), and demountable rack offload and pickup system (DROPS) vehicles that would be transporting huge cargo containers.

The statement went on, “Every vehicle is a Ñglaigh na hÉireann vehicle and can be easily identified as such.”
Convoys were moving when alerts about possible disruptions to traffic were issued.
The weaponry comes from the now-closed Defence Forces deployment in Syria.
Two weeks ago, the final soldiers stationed in Syria came home.
