Thursday afternoon some 1,700 firemen and women were battling 15 wildfires, mostly in northern and central Portugal.
Mainland Portugal remains under a State of Alert today, which covered from Wednesday until tonight because of the particularly hot weather, with the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Vila Real, Beja, Castelo Branco, Faro and Viseu being on a special red level of alert.
