The Public Ministry requested the separation of the process of Ana Serralha, who is absent in an unknown place.

The panel of judges, chaired by Ana Rita Barra, continued with the trial of the remaining defendants, who all appeared in court, one of them by videoconference.

According to the indictment, the former director of the home, who is also a former PSD deputy, and the other five employees are accused of "abusive and harmful" behaviour of several users, mistreatment and abuse of psychoactive drugs without medical prescription.

The facts pointed out by the Public Prosecutor's Office occurred between 2009, the year in which the Nursing Home of Porto Moniz began operating, and the beginning of 2018, when the direction was suspended, following a lawsuit filed by Social Security.

Several complaints from family members were reported over the years, which motivated an inspection action and then the filing of a complaint with the Public Prosecutor made by the Regional Government of Madeira, in 2018.

In addition to the abuse of psychoactive drugs and mistreatment, the Public Prosecutor also points out that some users were treated by derogatory nicknames and considers that the defendants acted consciously, knowing that they were harming people particularly vulnerable due to advanced age and associated diseases.
