The Portuguese women both secured a place among the top seven of this International Surfing Association (ISA) event, in El Sunzal and La Bocana, the last qualifying event for Tokyo2020, which will mark the debut of the sport in the Olympic games.

Teresa Bonvalot and Yolanda Sequeira join Frederico Morais who saw his presence officially confirmed at the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games, despite being eliminated in round 5 of the World Surfing Games play-offs, which are being held in El Salvador.

In light of the results, the Portuguese Surfing Federation officially confirmed Frederico Morais as the first qualified to represent Portugal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

“We brought a very strong team to the World Surfing Games, the last chance for Olympic qualification, and, in view of the results, we can confirm that Frederico Morais will represent Portugal at the Tokyo Olympics. As for Kikas, we have the utmost confidence that he will represent Portuguese surf at the highest level, as he has been accustomed to”, said João Aranha, the federation leader.

The Tokyo2020 Olympic Games will take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
