According to monthly employment and unemployment estimates, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), in January, “it stood at 5.7%, a figure higher than the previous month by 0.1 percentage points, but lower by 0. 1 percentage point from three months earlier and by 0.9 percentage points from one year earlier".

The monthly employment and unemployment statistics further revised the February unemployment rate downwards, from the provisional value of 5.7% to 5.6%.

Also in March, the active population (5,173,200) decreased by 0.1% compared to February, but increased by 2.7% compared to March 2021.

The employed population (4,877,300) decreased by 0.2% compared to February and increased by 3.7% compared to a year earlier.
