This friendly private company with the slogan “We love to make it easy for you” is based in Silves, but they confirmed that they do offer journeys in various areas across the Algarve, including, Silves, Portimão, Lagos, Lagoa, and Albufeira, even taking clients further afield such as Faro and Sagres.

Safety-Transfer is a recent business, dedicated to the needs of those with reduced mobility. Having only opened in September 2022, Belgium owner, Donald Naessens having lived in the Algarve for 17 years, knew exactly what was missing from the Algarve and that was a specialised service for clients with reduced mobility/wheelchair users. Donald explained, “I wanted to invest my money in a good project to help the community because this was really needed here in the Algarve and we are now the only ones offering this specialised service.”

I also met Brazilian, Ruan Silva, who moved to the Algarve four years ago. Ruan is the designated driver, who told The Portugal News that following working at a nursing home, where he did care and safety courses, he decided to join this new venture as there is nothing like this here and he is passionate about giving a great service and helping the community.

Services

Safety-Transfer works 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and are always available and on hand to help you get to your next destination. They have Wheelchair Transport, in which they can bring wheelchair users to the hospital or doctors and dentist appointments. You can find all the prices per km on their website, as they are fully transparent with their clients, “We strive to provide the best service possible and we accept cards as well as cash.”

They also offer private transport with a driver, which is intended for reduced mobility/wheelchair users who would like to go out for the day to any location, including visits to Zoomarine, Monchique, Aljezur, Faro, or any shopping centre. Most uniquely, wheelchair users or those with reduced mobility can bring their family members or friends as they have space for up to four extra passengers. Finally, their third service is private transport with driver assistance, in which Donald told The Portugal News that “We are happy to help in any way we can, for example, we can wait with clients at appointments and we go the extra mile, like picking up prescriptions on the way.”

Customer Satisfaction

Safety-Transfer delivers comfort, security, and punctuality, in which they explained that “in the short time they have been open, they have received great feedback and a lot of repeat customers who have really enjoyed their service.” With Donald adding that “There are lots of taxis that say they accept wheelchair users but they don’t have the proper lift and equipment, we have a ramp, so the person with reduced mobility does not need to be removed from the wheelchair. Everything is comfortable and secure, which is our priority.”
