“We now have the ambition, together with Spain, Morocco and Ukraine, to organise the 2030 World Cup, in a unique bid, jointly between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea, aimed at organising the first football World Cup that unites, through sport and its better values, two continents: Europe and Africa”, said António Costa.

The president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes, who spoke after the head of government, classified the candidacy for the 2030 World Cup as a “pioneer”, extending it to all the federations that make up UEFA and asking for “unequivocal support”.

“There is no better day or better time to tell you that the candidacy does not belong only to Portugal, Spain and Morocco, it is ours, it belongs to the whole of united Europe and that I am humbly counting on the unequivocal support of all the federations that are here in Lisbon so that the biggest event in the world also happens in Portugal and that I will dedicate all my energy to that”, he said.
