FDI transactions carried out between January and June “corresponded mainly to real estate investment carried out by non-residents in Portugal”, explains the supervisor.

Investors residing in European countries contributed the most to FDI in Portugal, with an investment of 980 million euros, followed by investors from Asia (512 million) and America (298 million).

On the other hand, Portugal's direct investment abroad (IPE) transactions accelerated in the first half of the year. They totalled 3.4 billion euros, which represents an increase of 73% compared to the first half of 2023.

“The investment made by companies in the electricity, gas and water sector in companies residing on the European continent stands out”, adds Banco de Portugal.
