As mentioned last time Floresta Foresters took to grass for week 5 for the first time against Alvor Lions and produced a very tight result on points to come away with 6 points to Alvor Lions 8. Back on the carpet Floresta Rangers took on Alvor Lynxs and produced a very good win taking 12 points to 2. Further down the Algarve Pedras and Valverde were head to head both home and away. The two Pedras teams are very much focused on the league prize, but first, they must overcome the two Valverde teams to challenge the leaders.

So after week 5, the Floresta Foresters are feeling the cool wind of the Valverde Veterans bearing down as they now share the lead with only a point difference separating them. Pedras Panthers are stocking close behind and poised to pounce next week.

So what happened last Saturday?

Down in Pedras the Pumas, who were lying in 6th position after week 5, took on Valverde Veterans. The Pumas took 11 points to Valverde Veterans 3 resulting in the Pumas moving from 6th position on the league table to 4th place. Over on the carpet the other Valverde team, the Vipers, took on the league leaders and produced a great show of skill. The earlier trip to Floresta on Thursday for some pre-match practice clearly showed and it also demonstrated the benefits of the two 9 ends structure. While the result did not go the Vipers way the second set of 9 ends on all rinks could have easily gone against the leaders and on some rinks, the last bowl was needed to clinch the points. They did breathe a sigh of relief after the game!

So after all the excitement the league positions after week 6 is Foresters leading, Veterans second and the 2 Pedras Teams now in 3rd and 4th position.

Temperatures may be dropping a little next week along the Algarve but the heat is rising on the league leaders. Jacks roll again at 11.00.
