The new platform, which is now fully operational, aims to speed up the entire process of processing nationality requests, with the automatic integration of the Civil Registry to issue the birth certificate, which will immediately allow “to speed up 23,000 processes in the registration process”.

It will also facilitate communication with external entities consulted in this process, such as the Judiciary Police or the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), without the need for employee intervention.

“It is estimated that, in this way, 20,000 hours of work will be saved, the equivalent of 86 people freed up for other tasks with greater added value”, estimates the MJ.

The online submission of the nationality application has been possible since February and mandatory for representatives since November and, according to the Ministry of Justice, “over the last 10 months, over 16 thousand applications have been submitted via this method, contributing to increasing the efficiency of services and reducing pressure service and the bureaucratic and logistical burden associated with receiving paper documentation”.

“The new nationality platform will also allow, from the beginning of next year, online monitoring of the phases of the process in real time, with increased transparency and trust in the process and greater efficiency in processing nationality”.

The digitalization of processes is being financed with funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and so far the Registries “have already invested around one million euros in the recovery of processes in the area of nationality”, with the total recovery of pending issues expected by the end of next year.
