According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the end of February, on the 29th, will bring a “new episode of snow” from the afternoon onwards.

“After a break in precipitation over mainland Portugal, from February 29th and at least until March 3rd, there will be polar air masses affecting the weather in the country which will once again bring snow to the highlands, initially to the highest points of the Serra da Estrela from the afternoon of the 29th, with a gradual decrease in elevation to 800/1000 meters of altitude in the North and Center regions”.

The IPMA is expecting a “considerable accumulation” of snow in Serra da Estrela, which should “have a significant impact on road traffic and eventually lead to the issuing of a warning by IPMA”.
