At the World Travel Awards, the Passadiços do Mondego received the award for Leading Tourism Development Project 2024, as revealed by the municipality of Guarda.

The Mondego Walkways were also nominated in the Main Adventure Tourist Attraction and New Tourist Attraction categories.

For the president of Guarda City Council, Sérgio Costa, this international recognition highlights the municipality's exceptional commitment to excellence in the tourism sector.

In the mayor's opinion, this award “is also the renewed commitment to continue protecting and promoting natural and cultural heritage, ensuring that future generations can also enjoy the Mondego Walkways”.

The Mondego Walkways connect the Caldeirão Dam to the village of Videmonte, in the municipality of Guarda, on a 12-kilometre route. Since its opening, in November 2022, it has registered more than 130 thousand visits.

Inserted in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and the UNESCO Estrela World Geopark, the route uses existing paths and has wooden walkways and suspension bridges.

Along the way, you can see waterfalls and traces of industrial heritage from old wool or electricity production factories.
