According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) the yellow warning for the 17 districts on the mainland will be in effect between 09:00 on Thursday and 18:00 on Friday due to the persistence of high maximum temperature.

According to the IPMA, the yellow warning is issued whenever there is a risk for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

Temperatures will rise from today in mainland Portugal, reaching 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday in some regions.

For the next few days, minimum temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures are expected to vary between 35 and 40, and may be higher in some places, mainly in the Tagus Valley, inland Alentejo and the Algarve.
