resources company Timing announced that it has 138 vacancies available for
cooks, with immediate entry, 84 part-time and 54 full-time throughout the
Algarve, according to a report by Sul Informação
According
to the temporary work company, “in the areas with the highest concentration of
hotels, the number of vacancies is also higher, such as Vilamoura, Albufeira,
Lagos and Carvoeiro.
“Every
year, during the high season, Timing offers a high number of vacancies, and
this year was no different”, explains Ricardo Mariano, CEO of the company.
“At
a time when tourism has reached its maximum, what good is the service in any
hotel restaurant, if the kitchen does not have the capacity to respond due to
lack of staff? It is important to reflect on this issue and not miss out on talent
in the hospitality industry”, commented Mariano.
Eva
Quitério, Human Resources coordinator for the Algarve and Madeira, adds that
“if you are working, but have some free time and want to earn extra money,
contact us. There is a hotel near you with a part-time opportunity waiting for
you”.

You need to offer full-time work and good wages to entice chefs to move to The Algarve; it's a great place. Then you will have loyal employees and build a reputation with that chef for a following highlighting his name and photo even on a paper menu insert. You will have return customers and word of mouth recommendations. One bad season can sink a restaurant these days so treat your employees with respect and financial considerations, that's how people stay in business for many years.

Both Wesley and Alex are spot on. Portugal ranks as the 8th country worldwide with the highest emigration, meaning that local citizens leave in droves to earn a living. The policy of having the Portuguese only to serve tourists and expats is clearly a disaster for the country where not even the doctors are willing to work for the state anymore. Who can blame them? The private sectors offer better wages and working conditions though of course, the private sector is not accessible for the Portuguese population at large.
