The ten models of Chinese electric cars for sale in Portugal are cheaper than the competition, with the average price difference being around 10 percent and 14 percent, according to a report by Público.

There are three Chinese brands already in the national market: Aiways, BYD and MG, but they only sold 352 units this year. This volume is still very low in Portugal, representing only 2.6 percent of the 13,783 electric cars registered in 2023 so far. Despite the retail price being cheaper than the competition, sales results for Chinese electric cars in Portugal are still weak.

China can in reality produce electric cars at lower costs than the European or American competition. Carlos Tavares, the leader of Stellantis, recognises that "the risk is perfectly real" of competition coming from China and admits that European manufacturers will have to "reduce costs" to keep customers.
