According to the Presidency of the Republic, "the program will include trips to the three regions of the country: Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels".

"The head of State will have working meetings with King Philippe, the Federal Government, the Federal Parliament and representatives of regional and municipal authorities, as well as university and research entities".

According to the Presidency of the Republic, "This visit will provide an opportunity to reinforce the close friendship and bilateral ties between Portugal and Belgium, in its most diverse dimensions, and will also provide an opportunity to address relevant issues at a European and multilateral level".

"The trip will also include an important component of contact with the large Portuguese community residing in Belgium", the note reads.

The Presidency of the Republic states that "the last state visit to Belgium by a President of the Portuguese Republic took place in 2005".
